Executive Chef Henry Rodriguez preparing fresh fruit in Farmer's Pick Buffet

Meet Chef Henry

Executive Chef Henry Rodriguez began his culinary journey at a young age while watching and learning from his parents, who were both exceptional cooks. His real inspiration to become a chef came from working in his grandmother’s restaurant as a teenager in Puerto Rico, where she shared her recipes, techniques and love for cooking with him. He went on to attend culinary school, and gained extensive experience in all aspects of the restaurant industry as he worked his way up to his current position. Today, as the Executive Chef of Isle Waterloo, Rodriguez oversees 6 chefs and over 40 line cooks. To keep his staff motivated, he encourages them to explore and create new dishes. Chef Henry’s motto is “Happy People, Happy Food” and his rapport with his staff exemplifies this. It similarly applies to his relationship with guests, as he can often be seen visiting tables during service to get feedback from diners.

Chef Henry has received multiple awards for his creativity and hard work in the kitchen. In addition, Chef Henry has been a driving force in the Isle’s culinary program for high school students in the Waterloo area. He and his team volunteer their time by giving students tours of the kitchens, demonstrating how to use equipment and cooking lunch for them. The objective of the program is to spark passion in the students and encourage them to pursue an education and career in culinary arts -- a goal for which Chef Henry’s enthusiasm and encouragement makes him a very inspiring role model.

Wow!  Haven't had the Isle buffet in a few years and it was great.  Taking the farm-fresh theme and running with it has helped greatly.  Fresh fruits and vegetables are used whenever possible.  Salad bar had several delicious prepared salads and the dessert area has been greatly improved with the Black Forest cake a standout.  While I wouldn't necessarily make a special trip here, it was a terrific option while at the casino.

For a casino buffet, the lunch is very good. Lots of options if your having a hard time choosing. The dessert sections is also amazing with many different varieties to pick from.
